ACTION CALL: REVIEWING THE FUTURE USE OF THE OAK RIDGES MORAINE

In typical fashion while approving 55 Industrial Wind Turbines on the allegedly protected ORM, your elected officials are also reviewing the future land use of the Moraine. This includes those at Sumac Ridge and Settlers Landing in Bethany and Pontypool.

Ostensibly the motive of this review is to enhance the protection of this invaluable Green Belt.

HOUSTON….we seem to have a conflict ?

NOW IS THE TIME TO CONTACT ANYONE AND EVERYONE ON THE LIST BELOW WITH YOUR THOUGHTS ON HOW AND WHY THE MORAINE SHOULD CONTINUE TO BE PROTECTED. THOUSANDS OF EMAILS WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE……..But it has to start with YOU.

Addresses and suggested talking points below. Please forward or distribute this email to your neighbours and friends , rural or urban.

PLEASE Encourage others to take 10 minutes to Send Comments on the Oak Ridges Moraine Plan Review by May 27th!

In your own words:
The Oak Ridges Moraine Act and Conservation Plan have been respected as landmark ‘environment-first’ legislation from when they were passed by all three parties in 2001 and 2002. Wherever the requirements of the Plan have been followed, it has been highly effective at restoring, protecting and enhancing the agricultural lands, natural heritage and hydrological functions of the Moraine. The Plan should be strengthened to provide additional protection.

· The Oak Ridges Moraine is NOT Renewable.

· Revoke approvals of industrial wind and solar projects approved on the Oak Ridges Moraine.

· Place a moratorium on further approvals

· Amend other provincial legislation so it complies with the ORM Act and Conservation Plan and repeal legislation that overrules that protection.

· Amend section 41, Ontario Regulation 359/09, which allows development on the ORM, in oder to restrict industrial development to essential development and restrict locations for industrial wind and large scale solar on the Moraine and in the Greenbelt.

· Establish the Oak Ridges Moraine Commission to protect the ORM

· The Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan IS a Climate Change Plan. If followed, it helps protects against severe weather, protects water resources, human life, and agricultural productivity, and it prevents damage to homes, businesses, and agriculture.

· Require strict adherence to setbacks from natural heritage and hydrological features.

· Greater emphasis on role of Conservation Authorities in authorizing any development.

· Require full hydrogeological studies before any development on the Moraine.

· Prohibit development without watershed plans
